CBS, Gray Television renew deal for 39 network affiliate stations

CBS and Gray Television today announced a renewed multiyear deal covering Gray’s 39 CBS-affiliated television stations in 32 markets.

Gray said the deals were set to expire at various times over the next few years. Gray said the stations included cover about 5.9 million television households in the U.S.

"We are pleased we have reached this renewal agreement with our valued partner Gray Television," said Ray Hopkins, president of Television Networks Distribution at CBS Corporation, in a statement. "Through this comprehensive deal, both parties recognize the near and long-term benefits in extending our strong relationship, including the value the number one Network brings to viewers."

"A majority of Gray-owned CBS stations are #1 in the markets they serve and have been proud affiliates of CBS for five or more decades," said Gray CEO Hilton H. Howell, Jr. in a statement. "From broadcast to digital and beyond, we will continue to evolve with CBS and better serve our local viewers, with high-quality network and local programming into the foreseeable future."

The large-scale renewal between CBS and Gray varies from the line negotiations with other broadcast groups like Sinclair have followed.

CBS and Sinclair Broadcast Group recently renewed the affiliate deals for three TV stations covering more than 1.5 million people. A few months earlier, CBS and Sinclair announced a separate affiliate renewal deal for four of its owned or operated stations.

The stations include:

  • KUTV in Salt Lake City, Utah
  • KEYE in Austin, Texas
  • WSBT in South Bend, Indiana
  • WGFL in Gainesville, Florida
