With the nation in the grips of solar eclipse fever, Tegna is teaming with The Weather Channel’s digital properties to provide nationwide coverage of the event on Aug. 21.
Tegna is also partnering with Facebook to provide a live stream of the eclipse on Facebook Live, as well as coverage from WBIR, Tegna’s station in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Tegna said seven of its stations are well positioned to view the eclipse: KGW in Portland, Oregon; KTVB in Boise, Idaho; KUSA in Denver, Colorado; KSDK in St. Louis, Missouri; WBIR in Knoxville, Tennessee; and WLTX in Columbia, South Carolina. Special coverage from those stations will be featured on weather.com, on The Weather Channel app and across social media.

Among the coverage plans, KGW intends to have a crew on a plane over the Pacific Ocean to film views of the eclipse; KTVB will produce a 2-hour television special; and KSDK will be live in Carbondale, Illinois, at a NASA official viewing location.

Tegna is planning to offer “dedicated, relevant and enhanced coverage on-air, on their website and mobile apps” from all its stations on Aug. 21.
