Altice to deploy Arris E6000 edge router in France, expand use for Suddenlink

Arris said that Altice NV has deployed its DOCSIS 3.1-enabling E6000 converged cable access platform (CCAP) within its SFR unit in France.

The vendor also said the Euro telecom conglomerate will expand use of the edge router within the operations of its recently acquired U.S. asset Suddenlink Communications, as it further deploys 1-gig broadband services within Suddenlink's footprint.

While Arris experienced a 20 percent dip in CPE sales to operator clients last year, it expects sales of network access equipment to be robust in 2016, as operators look to ramp up DOCSIS 3.1-powered gigabit speed networks.

Last month, Arris touted Comcast's use of the E6000 in its DOCSIS 3.1 rollout, for example

"These deployments further cement the ARRIS E6000 CER as the leading CCAP solution for operators who want the best technology to meet the crucial demand for higher broadband speeds as more and more devices become connected in the home," said Bruce McClelland, president of network and cloud, global services at Arris.

After announcing the new E6000 deployments, McClelland and other Arris executives convened in New York for a company investor-day presentation. The SFR deployments, they said, fit an overall agenda of expanding beyond the confines of the U.S. cable business and reaching out to the global telecom market — a quest further enabled by the $2.1 billion acquisition of the U.K.'s pace, and all the European inroads that brought with it.

Arris CEO Bob Stanzione called last month's decision to lay off 10 percent of the company's workforce following its purchase of the No. 2 CPE vendor "heartbreaking." But he otherwise described the integration as going well, noting that Arris is "executing on a strong synergy plan."

Stanzione, meanwhile, also downplayed the potential impact to his operator clients from the FCC's set-top proposal: "We're not terribly concerned about this FCC drama," he said.
