Arris launches new TiVo-powered set-tops aimed at smaller cable operators

Arris has launched a new line of pay TV set-tops that feature TiVo’s user interface and support the NCTC’s VU-IT! platform for integrating OTT programming.

The devices are aimed at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 operator market. The product rollout includes a gateway and two client devices.

The MG2 gateway includes a six-tuner DVR with a 1-terabyte hard drive and support for future 4K application enhancements. It also enables mobile viewing of DVR content.

The Mi4 IP Client is an in-home DVR client to Arris MG2 and MG1 gateways, enabling subscribers to upgrade to 4K services.

And the Qi3 cable set-top client is designed as an economy-minded solution, able to operate as a standalone HD set-top using DTA security. It can also function as a DVR client to the MG1 and MG1. Arris also noted that the Qi3 is one of the first devices to achieve CAL certification for DTA security.

Each of the three devices features MoCA 2.0 networking technology for using existing coaxial cables throughout the home to deliver IP content without installing new wires.

The devices are being unveiled this week at The Independent Show in Indianapolis.

"Our advanced new set-top portfolio positions Arris as the ideal global partner for NCTC members looking to deliver next-generation OTT and TiVo experiences to their subscribers," said Arris CPE President Larry Robinson, in a statement.

“This range of solutions demonstrates Arris’ dedication to supporting independent operators as well as our leadership in UHD and DVR services,” he added. “We’re bringing the future of TV to operators of all sizes, who count on our expertise, scale, and advanced technology to deliver the cutting-edge video services that their subscribers demand."
