Bell Canada app brings TV to wireless connected devices

Bell Canada (NYSE: BCE) has marshaled its wireless and wireline telecommunications capabilities to create a new application that expands TV viewing for subscribers with access to Android, iOS and BlackBerry devices via Wi-Fi or mobile connections.

Called Bell TV, the application is available at no extra charge for Fibe TV subscribers and includes access to the Bell Mobile TV service that lets Bell Mobility customers watch TV anywhere over high-speed wireless or Wi-Fi. The carrier includes 10 hours of Mobile TV connectivity "with many popular Bell Mobility rate plans" or as a $5 a month adder, the carrier said in a press release. Current Mobile TV customers will be automatically upgraded to the Bell TV app although, the carrier said, some may need to do so manually.

"Bell has invested billions in building next-generation Canadian wireless and fiber networks to execute our commitment to deliver the best TV experience across every screen. The Bell TV app gives customers the flexibility to watch TV Everywhere, at home or on the go," said Wade Oosterman, president of Bell Mobility and Residential Services and chief brand officer at Bell, adding the app is "the latest proof that with Bell, TV just got better.

The app includes a programming guide and interface and allows customers to stop and resume on-demand programming between their TV screen and their mobile device.
