BigBand introduces SDV software for MSOs

Cable may or may not be going hog wild over switched digital video--it's tough to tell when MSOs hold the cards so closely to their chests--but BigBand Networks is ready if and when they are. The Redwood City vendor has introduced new software for its SDV tools that it says incorporates improved monitoring, performance and usability to support "large-sale SDV network operations."

Assuming there are such large scale SDV operations, the new software is designed to support HD and 3D TV--and there's yet another stretch--over IP delivery while providing "fast and economical bandwidth expansion" for cable operators.

Maybe for cable, maybe not, but BigBand says it executes billions of real-time SDV transactions for service providers who use its software to optimize channel lineups and identify long tail content to maximize the number of programs being carried on networks.
