Cable One is changing its name to Sparklight

Cable One wants a new name to reflect its business that’s evolved beyond just cable television, so it’s switching things up and going with Sparklight.

Sparklight will be the name applied to Cable One’s customer-facing business beginning in the summer 2019, while the corporation will retain the Cable One name.

“We are very excited for this evolution to our new brand and the next chapter in our story,” said Cable One President and CEO Julie Laulis in a statement. “Over the past several years we have evolved and our new brand will better convey who we are and what we stand for—a company committed to providing our communities with connectivity that enriches their world. While we are introducing a new brand, our corporate name will remain Cable One, Inc.”

Cable One’s name change shows up as many of the largest cable operators including Charter and Comcast have increasingly slapped the connectivity label on their businesses amid steady declines for traditional pay TV subscriber bases.

In addition to changing names, Cable One said in 2019 it will be “streamlining its residential internet service plans and pricing,” and offering faster speeds and the ability to include unlimited data on any plan. The company said it also plans on expanding customer self-service options through improved residential and business portals and updated local offices.

“As consumer data consumption continues to increase, multidevice households become the norm, and businesses expect a broad suite of services, Sparklight will continue to evolve with our customers by offering innovative options to fit their needs, while providing helpful, proactive and personal local service,” Laulis said.

During the most recent quarter, Cable One revenues rose $14.4 million (5.7%) to $268.3 million, thanks largely to residential data and business services revenue growth, partially offset by decreases in residential video and voice revenues.

Cable One is also expanding, most recently through the acquisition of Clearwave, a facilities-based service provider that owns and operates a fiber network offering regional coverage in Southern Illinois.
