Cablelabs makes Tru2way RI available

Cablelabs announced its much-anticipated reference implementation for interactive TV standard Tru2way, which should encourage and speed application development complying with the open middleware platform, and in turn quicken deployment of Tru2way applications. The RI is available as a free open source download or in the form of a commercial license that may cost about $100,000, according to Light Reading's Cable Digital News. The LRCDN report also suggests that the RI development could ideally pave the way for a Tru2way application store at a time when that concept is all the rage in the wireless market.

Tru2way activity has heated up in recent months as the largest cable TV providers work toward a July 1 deadline to be able to support the middleware, and also as industry seeks to counter some IPTV capabilities.
