Carrier-grade Wi-Fi not quite ready for prime time, CableLabs exec says

While several industry organizations are working on standards that would allow providers to manage Wi-Fi networks more like cellular networks, certified products for the standards won't roll out for another two years. CableLabs' Mark Poletti, lead wireless architect for the organization, told attendees at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver that groups like IEEE, the Wi-Fi Alliance and the Wireless Broadband Alliance are working together to get standards in place even as demand for Wi-Fi skyrockets.
