Charter on TWC switchover: We will not be Frontier

Charter Communications (NASDAQ: CHTR) is telling its newly acquired Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks customers they won't experience the same kinds of transitional issues that affected Verizon FiOS subscribers when Frontier Communications acquired their service over the spring.

"We purchased all of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. With this transaction we acquired everything," said Charter spokesman Justin Venech to the Orange County Register. "We're able to take more time in the integration process and not rush to make changes."

Venech also told the Southern California newspaper that Charter will convert all of TWC's local analog cable systems to digital over the next 18 months, rebranding it under the "Spectrum" banner.

"The Spectrum pricing and packaging is a better value" than TWC, Venech assured.

News about Charter's massive integration of TWC and Bright House has largely been more of trickle than a flood. The MSO has made plans to shutter TWC's Manhattan headquarters and pull a select group of employees back to its own Stamford, Connecticut home base.

And last week, there was the leak of an internal memo informing TWC and Bright House staffers about Charter's more buttoned-down culture — working from home is discouraged, for example, and New Charter employees shouldn't wear jeans to work.

For its part, Frontier Communications lost a large set of potential customers -- up to 40,000 -- during its problematic switchover of Verizon's (NYSE: VZ) wireline assets to its own systems in three states. The newly signed-up subscribers decided to look elsewhere for service after their orders could not be fulfilled by the promised service activation date.

Frontier also admitted that during the conversion process the telco lost a number of existing customers who opted to end their contracts.
