Comcast chief software architect tweets code that lets subs preview X2 guide

Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) is beginning to let subscribers with its cloud-based Xfinity X1 program guide take the X2 version of the personalized guide for a test drive.

Sree Kotay, Comcast's chief software architect, posted a code on Twitter Wednesday that subscribers can use to access the X2 interface. "Have Comcast Xfinity X1?  Try hitting exit-exit-exit-X-T-W-O," Kotay wrote.

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts demonstrated the X2 guide in June at The Cable Show convention in Washington, D.C. X2 lets subscribers navigate from at least six different program guides, including guides focused on sports and kids programming and a personalized guide that suggests TV shows and movies based on viewing habits.

The nation's largest MSO has said it will launch X2 by the end of 2013, and it is expected to step up marketing for its new guide and multiscreen programming in February during NBCUniversal's coverage of the Winter Olympics. Comcast has also been talking to other cable operators about using its Xfinity platform on their cable systems.
