After conducting a test rollout of YouTube integration on its X1 video platform in markets including Denver, Comcast has deployed the offering across its national footprint.
X1 users will now be able to search for and access the billions of user-generated YouTube videos via their Xfinity Voice Remote, using their DVR to pause, rewind and fast-forward through programming.
YouTube content will also surface throughout the Xfinity on Demand portal. X1 will also sign users into their YouTube settings in subscription services, including YouTube Red but not virtual MVPD service YouTube TV.
“Giving our customers seamless access to live, on demand and internet content in one place continues to be a key part of our strategy and we are excited to now add YouTube to the X1 experience,” said Matt Strauss, executive VP of Xfinity Services for Comcast Cable, in a statement.
Strauss also deployed Comcast’s new favorite catchphrase in his canned statement: “By adding billions of YouTube videos to our video platform, we are taking our role as the aggregator of aggregators to a new level and reaffirming that X1 is the best place to easily discover and access all types of entertainment with the sound of your voice,” he said.
Comcast integrated Netflix as a native X1 app earlier this year. And last week, the cable company announced that it had struck a deal with CBS Sports to integrate fantasy football into the interface.
"The living room is YouTube's fastest growing platform. We are excited to supercharge our distribution there and bring Xfinity X1 users a seamless way to consume all of the content they love. Voice is a key enabler to discovery and we are looking forward to bringing it to Xfinity X1 users,” said Robert Kyncl, chief business officer for YouTube, also in a statement.
