Comcast's Salinger, Cisco's Chapman headline SCTE Wireless & DOCSIS 3.1 Symposium

Technologists including Comcast's (NASDAQ: CMCSA) Jorge Salinger, Cisco's John Chapman and CableLabs' Belal Hamzeh, Mark Poletti and Vivek Ganti will headline the SCTE's pre-conference Wireless and DOCSIS 3.1 Symposium on Sept. 22.

The Society of Cable Telecommunications announced the speakers list and schedule for its one-day event, which will take place at Denver's Colorado Convention Center one day before the SCTE Cable-Tech Expo kicks off.

The full-day session, starting at 9 a.m. MST and presented jointly with CableLabs, will address two of the most relevant technology topics affecting MVPDs today.

With more than 18 billion Wi-Fi chipsets set to ship over the next five years, according to ABI Research, Wi-Fi has evolved to be the most ubiquitous wireless technology for Internet access and a key differentiator for pay-TV services.

Meanwhile, with Internet service providers including Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and AT&T (NYSE: T) setting a new benchmark for broadband performances with speeds of 1 gigabyte per second and beyond, DOCSIS 3.1 is also quickly emerging as a must-have technology for pay TV companies competing in the broadband market.
