DirecTV launches Spanish-language streaming service Yaveo

DirecTV (NASDAQ: DTV) has announced the soft launch of its Spanish-language streaming service Yaveo, providing subscribers with programming from Latin America and Spain for $7.99 a month.

The service will initially be available for Mac and PC computers, as well as Android mobile devices, with iOS device and Xbox 360 access following later.

The service doesn't require a standard DirecTV pay-TV subscription.

DirecTV says Yaveo subscribers will have access to "thousands of hours" of programming from channels including beIN Sports en Español, Cine Sony Television and ¡Hola!

"Yaveo gets DirecTV into the OTT business, and we're excited to start with a compelling Spanish-language service targeted to the Hispanic community," said Paul Guyardo, chief revenue and marketing officer for the satellite company. "We'll learn a great deal, use the findings to grow and improve the Yaveo platform and expand our OTT offering over time."
