Ericsson scoops up fiber access company Entrisphere

Ericsson has acquired fiber access equipment maker Entrisphere for an undisclosed sum. Entrisphere provides gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology to North American carriers. The startup began in 2000 and has 70 employees. Last December, Ericsson made a big splash in the sector when it acquired Redback networks for a cool $2.1 billion in cash. While the details are undisclosed about the most recent acquisition, I bet it's less than Redback's. Entrisphere and Ericsson have partnered on the technology since 2005.
