Florida county explores ways to profit from broadband network

Martin County, Fla. thinks it can make some money competing with Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA). The county is building a broadband network and its government has allocated $100,000 for a study to tell it what that network can do--including competing with incumbent cable provider Comcast for broadband customers.

"We don't know. That's part of what we're attempting to learn; whether or not that's a viable option," said Kevin Kryzda, the county's CIO.
