Genachowski in line for cabinet position?

Embattled FCC Chairman (isn't that somehow a redundant description of the title?) Julius Genachowski could be in line to give up the pleasures of dealing with opposition party members in Congress to deal with the nation's businesses and trade unions as Secretary of Commerce.

At least that's the conjecture in D.C., where Genachowski's name has been tossed into the White House internal consideration hat to replace current Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, who's giving up the job to become ambassador to China.

While Genachowski is said to favor anything that gets him out of the FCC on a positive note, the deal is far from a fait accompli for the same reason: he's been an unpopular figure driving the Obama Administration broadband plan.
