German cable operator Kabel BW deploys FTTH network, looks to TV services

Kabel BW is rollingout fiber-to-the-home service in Neresheim-Elchingen, using the fiber network of energy company EnBW ODR. The deal allows Kabel BW and the telecoms arm of EnBW ODR--ODR TSG--offer broadband Internet, fixed telephony and TV services.

Kabel BW plans to use direct fiber connections as the company's standard deployment for new networks by 2011.

Kabel BW--Germany's third-largest cable company--also has made a deal with Sky that allows it to sell a triple-play package bundling Internet, telephony and pay-TV offerings from Sky Deutschland, ranging from a basic 20-channel basic package, and a premium package that allows a limited a la carte selection.
