Goldfield, GoBackTV get cable IPTV system up and running in three days for Va. telco

Systems integrator Goldfield Telecom has completed a rapid cable IPTV system installation at Tier 3 Citizens Telephone Cooperative, using GoBackTV's GigaQAM IP solution to roll out the product in less than a week. The installation itself, said Goldfield, took just three days.

Because of the size of Citizens, it now has some 150 subscribers on the IPTV service, 200 digital cable customers, 1,000 analog cable customers and 1,500 IPTV customers over DSL, keeping the cost per subscriber down was a key element to the installation.

The installation of the GoBackTV cable IPTV solution, using Latens' conditional access, went live in less than a week with only a few minor tweaks after the installation.

Citizens is based in Floyd, Virgina, just south of Blacksburg near the North Carolina border. The member-owned company offers phone, Internet, and IPTV services, as well as value added services like in-store and on-site PC repair and business solutions. It was founded in 1914.

Citizens Co-op plans to introduce widgets and games in the future, allowing customers to access Twitter, Facebook and OTT video such as YouTube from the TV set. As these services come online, they are now immediately available to its entire IPTV customer base.
