Grande expands in Texas, acquires Centrovision

The cable industry's M&A trend now extends beyond large and mid-sized operators, evidenced by San Marcos, Texas-based Grande Communications' purchase for an undisclosed sum of Central Texas MSO Centrovision.

The deal expands Grande's footprint in the Lone Star State, adding fast-growing Bell County to a footprint that already included Waco, Dallas, Midland, Odessa, Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio and Corpus Christi.

In a company FAQ on the acquisition, Grande noted that Bell County's population has expanded by about 35,000 residents in the past five years, and that Centrovision touts around 4,400 video and broadband customers and about 10,000 residential passings.

Grande said it will begin contacting Centrovision customers "in the coming months" about the acquisition, offering them such Grande features as 400 Mbps Internet service, integrated TiVo and Netflix on video set-tops, and unlimited voice calling to Mexico.

The deal comes on the heels of Atlantic Broadband's $200 million purchase of Connecticut's MetroCast, announced June 8.

"We look forward to welcoming Centrovision customers and employees into the Grande family as we move forward with the integration of facilities," said Matt Rohre, senior VP of operations and general manager for Grande Communications, in a statement.
