Harmonic to acquire Omneon for $274M

Harmonic is spending $274 million in cash and stock to bolster its position in video production and playout technologies by acquiring Omneon, a company that describes itself as "a pioneer in the use of advanced IT technologies and open systems for broadcast applications."

The acquisition would combine Harmonic's video delivery infrastructure with Omneon's digital media production, management and distribution products to "position Harmonic to become a global leader in video infrastructure for the digital media industry," Harmonic President-CEO Patrick Harshman said in a company news release. Harmonic will also get access to Omneon's customer base that includes Comcast, CBS, BBC, NBC Universal, Viacom and EchoStar, among others.
