Hyperdrive? Coaxsys and STMicroelectronics demo IPTV at 197 Mbps

Coaxsys and STMicroelectronics plan to show off their TVnet 2X IPTV solution at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month. The technology is still in demo mode and not for commercial availability yet, but it's been generating a lot of buzz since it claims to maintain a throughput of 197 Mbps through Ethernet-over-coax networking technology. The companies claim the technology is called 2X because it achieves a doubling of their previous 100 Mbps TVnet offering. The offering aims to thwart 10/100 Ethernet, HomePlug-AV, and IEEE 802.11n in terms of speed. Analysts want to see to believe, but many have a good feeling about this one.
