Japan's OnDemand TV offers high def IPTV VOD

SeaChange International says its customer, Japan-based OnDemand TV, is launching what it claims to be the first high-definition, IPTV-based video-on-demand service. The service's HDTV programming will be encoded in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, which allows operators to deliver HD content in half the bandwidth required by MPEG-2 technology. The service includes HD movies, sports programming and others. OnDemand originally launched in March 2005--it will launch this latest offering next month.
