Media moguls top list of 2010's best paid CEOs

Six of the top 10 CEO salaries in 2010 were paid to CEOs from the media and entertainment industry. In fact, those salaries were actually better than what bosses received in 2007 when the economy was booming, not glooming, and unemployment was half of what it is today, according to statistics compiled by Equilar, an executive compensation research firm.

The pay figures reflect increasingly positive earnings results that entertainment and media companies have been posting. They also should throw up some red flags for a customer-facing industry that frequently comes under the watchful eye of federal regulators concerned with consumer pricing.

Here's a list of the top earners in media and entertainment:

Top CEO Salaries - Media & Entertainment - 2010

Executive Company Annual Salary
Philippe Dauman Viacom $84.5 million
Les Moonves CBS $56.9 million
David Zaslav Discovery Communications $42.6 million
Brian Roberts Comcast $31.1 million
Robert Iger Walt Disney Co. $28 million
Jeff Bewkes Time Warner $26.1 million

Dauman, Moonves and Roberts were repeaters in the top 10.
