Russian mobile wireless, IPTV and OTT provider MegaFon is partnering with Verimatrix and RGB Networks as it expands its IPTV and OTT offerings to more than 60 million active subscriber accounts, the companies said in two press releases.
Verimatrix, in a news release, said the Russian provider "needed a robust content and revenue protection solution to secure video-on-demand (VOD) as well as live TV service delivery" over its IP-based network and decided to partner with Verimatrix to get access to its Video Content Authority System (VCAS).
"The VCAS platform plays an important role in our new video service offering since it not only ensures that we are adequately protecting our existing premium content service offering, but it also gives us the flexibility to easily extend this revenue protection to any services that we may add in the future," said Vitaly Starodubov, COO of MegaLabs, a MegaFon business unit focused on launching and monetizing new products and technologies.
The partnership includes using VCAS for protective revenue security and integrated protection for both managed and unmanaged delivery networks to connected PCs, phones, tablets and set-top boxes, the companies said.
"This is a great deployment for Verimatrix as it further strengthens our foothold in Russia," said Steve Oetegenn, the company's chief marketing and sales officer.
RGB, which announced its involvement in a separate news release Monday, said the carrier would use its Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VGM) and TransAct Packager for transcoding and packing OTT video.
"[W]e needed the most flexible and reliable IP video delivery solution available to keep pace with customer demands and need for quality," Starodubov said in the RGB news release. "OTT services are essential to the future of video delivery in Russia and we needed a solution that could ensure our vision comes to fruition. RGB's technology perfectly meets our needs and adds value to our long-term business strategy."
