MRG projects 26.9M IPTV subs this year

Multimedia Research Group's latest IPTV Global Forecast Report predicts roughly 5.6 million new subscriber additions in 2009 for a year-end total of 26.9 million IPTV subscribers globally. The bump is smaller overall than some past forecasts, which we can probably attribute to the economy, but it also comes after a late 2008 surge that took the total up to 21.3 million by year's end. MRG said the strength of first-quarter IPTV subscriptions still bodes well for this year. The research firm is estimating 81 million IPTV customers worldwide by 2013.
