A new report from broadband traffic management vendor Sandvine found that Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) accounts for nearly one-third (28 percent) of Web traffic in the United States and YouTube accounts for 17 percent of traffic delivered over fixed networks during peak hours.
The report, which analyzes Web traffic, also found that Hulu and Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), despite trying to catch up to Netflix in terms of video delivery, are struggling to do that. Hulu only accounted for 1.15 percent of all traffic during peak hours, and Amazon only logged in at 1.34 percent.
YouTube also saw its traffic increase by 9 percent compared to Sandvine's previous report. Sandvine attributed the growth to device and in-home, Wi-Fi-based mobile viewing. YouTube also logged lots of viewing over the cellular network. According to the report, YouTube accounted for 17.69 percent of all mobile downstream traffic in the United States.
