Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) has signed off on a second season of its newest original series, "Orange is the New Black," before the first season premiers on July 11. The online video provider is taking a risk in funneling this much money into a project without being able to gauge audiences' initial reactions, but it has had similar success before: Political thriller and original series "House of Cards" was also renewed for a second season before it debuted.
