Parisian mayor pushing for city-wide fiber network

Paris may be the next in a long line of cities and municipalities jumping on the muni-WiFi bandwagon, much to the chagrin of many a telco. But Mayor Bertrand Delanoe is taking the road less traveled and opting for a fiber network instead of a wireless or even an ADSL variation. Since France is one of the more competitive broadband markets in the world, the news of a subsidized Internet offering is surprising enough, but the switch to fiber may intrigue IPTV providers down the road.
