Popbox picks Accedo Broadband for new IPTV apps

Swedish application enabler Accedo Broadband, which provides interactive applications for IPTV and Connected TV, is teaming up with Syabas, which makes the Popbox over-the-top device to toll out an array of games from its Funspot casual game portfolio.

Armando Lopez, VP of Strategic Product Marketing at Syabas, said including Accedo games was a natural fit for Popbox. The company is hoping consumers will see Popbox as a simple way to view stored movies, images, and music, while having access to a variety of content apps.

"Accedo understands the TV consumer experience thoroughly and has a proven record of TV application deployments. It was natural for us to include their applications on our Popbox platform," he said.

Privately held Accedo Broadband provides a large application store for IPTV and Connected TV containing games, quizzes, puzzles, VOD, live TV, music, karaoke, lifestyle, sports, weather, social media and communication services. Accedo's Funspot gaming service is the most widely deployed IPTV gaming service in the world.

Syabas, headquartered in Fremont, California and with facilities in China and Malaysia, was founded in 2001. It develops software for inexpensive STBs, including the Popcorn Hour and Popbox.
