RCN heats up DOCSIS 3.1 competition with Comcast in Pennsylvania

Overbuilder RCN continues to challenge Comcast in the areas of DOCSIS 3.1-enabled gigabit services, announcing deployments in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania.

The deployments cover RCN customers in Bethlehem, Easton, Allentown and surrounding communities. The RCN announcement comes just a week after Comcast confirmed that it has deployed DOCSIS 3.1 in the Pennsylvania counties of Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware

RCN’s 1-gig service is now available to Lehigh Valley customers for $64.99 for 12 months, no contract required.

"Our customers' needs in the home continue to grow, and 1-gigabit is a giant leap in supporting and meeting that need. The gigabit platform is designed with those growing needs in mind as RCN continues to stay committed to our customers and to bringing them the best products on the market,” said Sanford Ames, Jr., senior VP and general manager of RCN Lehigh Valley, in a statement.

In addition to Lehigh Valley, RCN currently offers DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit service in Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia and Evanston, IL—all market in which Comcast has deployed D: 3.1 services, too.
