Report: Global IPTV subs reach 24 million

The latest global market figures from the Broadband Forum and research partner Point Topic show that global IPTV subscribership grew to almost 24 million and global broadband lines surpassed 429 million at the end of the first quarter. Western Europe continues to be the leading IPTV region, with 11.3 million subscribers and an impressive year-over-year growth rate of more than 56 percent. North America has the second-highest IPTV take at 4.4 million, though its growth pace of 16 percent between Q4 2008 and Q1 2009 is not quite as robust as the 21 percent adoption pace in Eastern Europe, where about 1.1 million subscribers now have IPTV.

On the broadband front, China has the highest broadband take of an single country with 88 million broadband access lines, while the U.S. had 83.9 million lines as of the first quarter. The U.S. total grew by more than 11 million line year-over-year despite the fizzling economy.
