Canada's Rogers Communications, which less than three weeks ago took its TV Everywhere offering, Rogers On Demand Online, out of beta, says it has signed up 100,000 of its 2.3 million cable subscribers to the service. The company has a rough goal of a "few hundred thousand" subscribers.
In January, the cable company said it had signed up some 46,000 subs after launching its beta in November. At the time, David Purdy, VP of Rogers' video product management, said, "We're committed to continually adding new content and partners, and given the great feedback we've been receiving, Rogers will be unveiling new features and functionality including live streaming, social networking and wireless access features in the near future."
Light Reading Cable reports the MSO is working through the details of authentication with programmers, hammering out whether customers should sign in on the Rogers' site or on an individual programmer's site.
"I personally believe customers want to go to a centrally aggregated site. They are used to having all of their content in one place. But I could be wrong, and if I am, we could always tweak our strategy," Purdy told Light Reading Cable.
