Romtelecom preps IPTV service

Romanian telco Romtelecom already operates a successful satellite TV service in its home market, competing against IPTV service provider iNES, but local reports in Romania suggest that the telco plans to launch IPTV services later this year. Romtelecom reportedly is conducting trials and mulling equipment choices.

It remains to be seen how much of a force IPTV will be Southeastern Europe and the rest of Eastern Europe, but Romtelecom is owned by Greek service provider OTE, which recently began rolling out its own IPTV services. OTE in turn is part-owned by IPTV player Deutsche Telekom.
