TellyTopia: Over-the-top can neutralize Internet threat

Embracing, rather than fighting "over-the-top" (OTT) Internet video can help the cable industry neutralize a growing threat to its subscription business model, says TellyTopia, a start-up interactive TV firm.

The Santa Clara-based TellyTopia has developed a service called "Moveez" that processes content then caches it in the Internet cloud for access by cable operators who would not have to build their own expensive storage facilities for the content. It's the second leg of the company's i2TV platform that is being used by a variety of operators to almost two million TV sets, the company said.

TellyTopia's business model puts it in competition with firms like ActiveVideo Networks, ZillionTV, Clearleap and Related Content Database in chasing cable interactive TV business.
