Time Warner Cable launches local news channel in San Antonio

Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) will launch its 17th local news channel, Time Warner Cable News San Antonio, on June 2.

Going live at 5 a.m. Monday with "News All Morning" on channels 14 and 200, the new programming service will cover "hyper local" news, politics, sports, traffic and weather, Multichannel News reports. This programming block will be followed by the similarly themed "News All Day," running from noon to 7 p.m. … followed by "News All Night" (7 p.m. - 5 a.m.). You get the picture.

The channel, launched as a subscriber acquisition and retention initiative, will also have TV Everywhere wherewithal, with subscribers able to access text and video content via authentication through TWC News apps and the TWCNews.com site.

The TWC News San Antonio site is already up and running, currently touting TWC's coverage of pro basketball's San Antonio Spurs, as they look to finish off the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference playoffs and return to the NBA Finals.

TWC News San Antonio joins a Time Warner Cable local news channel stable that already includes outlets in New York, California, North Carolina and other parts of Texas.
