Time Warner Cable upgrades regional sports production with ZEPLAY

Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) will start using a multichannel instant replay system from Tightrope Media Systems in the mobile production trucks covering regional sports in some of its markets. The vendor's ZEPLAY units deliver advanced, professional-quality replay, including multi-angle replay for regional high school, college and some professional sports.

TWC currently is deploying about 10 of the ZEPLAY units as part of a mobile production truck upgrades in Los Angeles and Milwaukee, among other markets, with further plans to expand. Three of the units also are already operational in New York.

The cable TV operator also is making HD part of these upgrades, which should especially enhance the viewing experience for viewers of high schools sports in particular.

It makes a lot of sense to upgrade the capabilities around producing and delivering regional sports programming, given that the ability to watch regional sports live is the last thing keeping some of us from cutting the pay TV cord. Regional sports coverage also has been at the center of many retransmission disputes, further showing how valuable this programming is to the native operator.
