Tiscali taps Telsey for IPTV set-tops

A week after securing carriage of the BSkyB channels, U.K. ISP Tiscali shopped for set-top boxes from Italian supplier, Telsey. Tiscali went with the hybrid IP FS600, a model that features an IPTV connection, a double tuner for terrestrial DTV reception and a PVR function.

Telsey will supply Tiscali with two models of the FS600 to accommodate the company's current operations in the United Kingdom and a planned launch in Italy. The set-tops are scheduled to be deployed over the next 15 months.

Tiscali appears to be rising in the IPTV space just as traditional cabler Virgin Media is struggling. Virgin fell out with Sky earlier this year, and has reportedly put itself on the auction block and is considering a name change to appease BSkyB's owner, Rupert Murdoch.
