TiVo claims patent win; Rogers trialing LTE

> As if Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) doesn't have enough problems already with its hissing contest with Fox Networks, now it's parent company EchoStar Corp. (Nasdaq: SATS) has TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO) nipping at its heels as well. The DVR developer is claiming victory in its long-running patent dispute with Dish, noting that the decision from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office "further validates our IP (intellectual property in this instance) and bring us closer to ending EchoStar's ongoing infringement." > Canada's Rogers Communications (NYSE: RCI), a long-time quad-play provider, has launched a "comprehensive Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless network technical trail with Ericsson Canada in the Ottawa area," according to a news release. The trial "builds on our industry-leading networks and it set the groundwork for our customers to do even more in the future," Rogers President-CEO Nadir Mohamed said in a statement (a descriptor that gets better and better over time).

> Also coming to Canada is a deal by Alvarion to supply rural broadband Internet provider Barrett Xplore technology as part of plan to deploy the first national 4G WiMAX network in the country. The deal is said to be worth about $75 million to Alvarion. News release.

> Speaking of wireless, Dallas Clement, Cox Communications' executive VP and chief strategy officer is the only cable-associated player to be named to the CTIA (that's better known as The Wireless Association) board of directors. News release.

> In other personnel moves, Light Reading Cable reports that Charter Communications (Nasdaq: CHTR) top customer service exec, Sr. VP Joe Stackhouse, is leaving the MSO and "heading back to Chicago to be with his family." Story.

And finally... Cheetah Technologies has juiced up its technology to "objectively and accurately measure the video experience as delivered to the television." In other words, the new stuff checks out those last three feet of the network to make sure that what's delivered to the home and to the box gets to the set. News release.
