TiVo extends TV control app to iPhone/iPod Touch

TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO) has reworked its TiVo Premiere iPad TV application for the iPhone and iPod Touch small screens, so that owners of the TiVo Series 3 HD DVRs can use the devices to channel surf, manage recordings and control other functions without the usual on-screen menu disruptions.

The app reportedly functions more quickly than the traditional TiVo on-screen interface, which has always been one of TiVo's slight letdowns.

The app also offers a guest mode for non-TiVo users to check out what it would be like to have the service. After a bumpy few years, TiVo has been aggressively innovative of late. To some extent, it's playing catch-up with its mobile apps, but the new apps could go a long way to keeping the company in the alternative set-top box race.
