Trend: Asian STB makers cornering market

According to a recent report from ABI, Asian set-top box makers including Samsung, Coship and there Chinese and South Korean vendors collectively make up 55 percent of the worldwide APAC STB market. That region's market is growing faster in terms of subscribers than any other. The companies are beginning to use their clout to target markets overseas, as well. Principal ABI analyst Michael Arden said, "We are seeing more Chinese vendors gaining market share, and not only because of the growth in the domestic market for IPTV, digital cable and satellite there. They are also getting some traction outside their home market, as are South Korean manufacturers, particularly in the IP-STB sector."
