Enabled by DOCSIS 3.0, cable operators including Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA), Cox and Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) have increased their downstream capabilities to 100 Mbps, and even higher. But with the announcement that it will provide symetrical upstream and downstream speeds, Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is once again showing off the superiority of its fiber-based network over cable.
