Will Ferrel's "YouTube-killer" knows viral

Actor Will Ferrel launched his own online video portal, called FunnyorDie.com that will post videos made by Ferrel and his friends as well as user-generated videos, like those on YouTube. Users will be able to vote on the quality of the shorts, which will allow the administrators to remove those ranked poorly. The poorly ranked videos go into "the Crypt" and will not emerge unless they garner 1000 votes to get resurrected. The first clip on the site features Ferrel and director friend Adam McKay, as well as McKay's 3-year-old daughter. The clip, called The Landlord, has been viewed more than 13 million times.

Funny or Die bills itself as a "collaborative effort of people in Silicon Valley and in Hollywood" and has financial backing from YouTube VC firm, Sequoia Capital.
