Windstream posts TV subscriber growth

Independent telco Windstream Communications reported fourth quarter 2009 earnings that included a 10,000-subscriber increase in its digital TV customer base to about 369,000 TV customers overall. The fourth quarter growth, however, was a bit off the pace of Windstream's 11,000-subscriber increase in the third quarter of last year--though the slowing of TV sub growth does fit with what other telcos are experiencing right now.

Most of the company's TV customers come through a satellite TV resale deal with Dish Network. The telco also has been busy on the M&A circuit the last couple years, buying smaller companies, most recently Iowa Network Communications, which eventually will add 26,000 TV subscribers to Windstream's base when the deal closes.
