Amazon Studios announces Spike Lee movie as its first theatrical release

Going ahead with its stated plans to offer original movies distributed first to theaters and then made available to its Prime subscribers in an early-release window, Amazon Studios announced that Spike Lee's next movie, with the working title of Chi-Raq, is its first Amazon Originals selection. The movie will take a look at violence in inner-city Chicago, and stars Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson and several others. "It would be impossible to find a better filmmaker with whom to launch our studio," said Ted Hope, head of motion picture production at Amazon Studios. Release
