Dijit Media said it is in the process of acquiring GoMiso and consolidating that company's line of social TV products into its NextGuide and Dijit Remote TV search and recommendation applications. As a result, Dijit, which makes discovery and control applications, said it will continue to support the Miso and SideShow social TV apps but is shutting down the Quips app and service.
"We've built the most powerful TV guide and discovery platform for consumers and the TV industry alike and this acquisition will give us more tools to give our users a guide experience that redefines how people discover content," Digit Media CE Jeremy Toeman said in a press release, where he also tipped his hat to GoMiso for being "the first to define the burgeoning TV space."
Dijit Media's NextGuide is designed to help social media users know where to go among the multiple options presented in the social TV space, combining recommendations and discovery with social features and "a unique mosaic-style interface for a modernized re-interpretation of the classic guide," the company said.
That platform will benefit from Miso's technology, said Andy Tarczon, founding partner of TDG Research, who noted that "Dijit strongly positions themselves as a leader in the evolving entertainment discovery category" with the acquisition.
As for GoMiso, the time was right to move to the next level, said company founder Somrat Niyogi.
"We began the journey of inventing social TV over three years ago and think Dijit's the right home for our users and the platforms we've built," Niyogi said in the press release. "There's a lot we've learned about consumers and the ever-changing nature of TV and believe that the NextGuide platform is poised for huge growth ahead."
