Hulu buys series from Lionsgate, licenses Jim Henson shows

Hulu has reached some new programming deals. It ordered 10 episodes of "Deadbeat," an original series from Lionsgate, and licensed the children's show "Fraggle Rock" from Jim Henson Family.

"Fraggle Rock" and nine other Henson shows were added to Hulu Plus on Thursday. They are available commercial-free. The shows bolster Hulu's stable of children's programming, which has proved to be an important element of subscription video-on-demand services.

The new series "Deadbeat" is set to begin production later this year, and will be produced by Dakota Pictures and Plan B Entertainment, according to a report in Variety.

"Deadbeat," billed as a "supernatural comedy," joins other original series such as "Quick Draw" and "The Awesomes" in Hulu's pipeline.
