Ooyala expands online video analytics suite

Online video platform Ooyala is continuing to push its edge in analytics, announcing an expansion of its Cassandra-based suite that gives publishers detailed local reporting, page-level reports, social networking sharing and reports on video engagement.

Bismarck Lepe, co-founder and president of products at Ooyala, said the new iteration is "a building block on where we want to go, and a very important one." He said Ooyala in coming weeks would continue to roll out expanded analytics that eventually will be "more granular than zipcodes."

"If you're a media company and you have syndication windows and different advertisers, now you'll be able to target everything more locally and make sure the content is relevant to individual consumers," he said.

Lepe said the expanded offering would be available to Backlot publishers at no additional cost.

"Knowing how people discover content is important because it delivers insight about the consumer," Lepe said. "With the new reports, a publisher can now drill down to individual cities for individual videos and find out how the content is being shared."
