Roku introduces 'fastest, most powerful' Roku 3 unit

Roku has launched what it calls its "fastest, most powerful Roku streaming player to date," the Roku 3, with new features that include a faster processor and an enhanced remote with a headphone jack for private listening.

Roku 3 comes loaded with more than 750 channels of entertainment, 1080p HD support, dual-band wireless, Ethernet and USB ports and even a microSD slot. It's available now in the United States via the Roku website, Amazon.com and other online retailers for $99.99 and will be available in retail stores in April. The new interface will automatically roll out as a free software update for all current-generation Roku devices in April, the company said.

The new features included with Roku 3 are designed to answer consumers' demands, said Anthony Wood, Roku's founder-CEO, including the built-in headphone jack with included in-ear headphones and volume buttons on a remote which also doubles as a motion-sensing game controller.

"As Roku continues to build the largest selection of streaming entertainment, we are always exploring ways to improve the TV experience for our customers," said Wood in a Roku press release. "Roku 3 introduces thoughtful new features that customers will love. The intuitive new interface makes it easy to find movies and shows quickly while the private listening mode is perfect for late-night streamers who don't want to wake up the family."
