Rumor: Apple TV unveiling set for March 7 alongside iPad 3

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is planning to launch its long-rumored connected TV on March 7 at an event in San Francisco, according to rumors. 9to5Mac reported that the TV--code named J33--would be unveiled along with the company's new iPad 3.

According to 9to5Mac, the TV likely includes a variation of the dual-core A5 chip, allowing 1080p streaming, and it could include a redesigned Bluetooth 4.0 remote control, and Siri support. Of note, the report said, is that the new TV would also launch with a new iTunes service that would include 1080p movies.

Rumors about a connected Apple TV have been picking up steam of late, including speculation that the new iPad would be capable of being used as a remote control. Earlier this month, it was reported that Best Buy had sent out a customer survey mentioning an Apple TV, and rumors also have circulated that a pair of Canadian service providers, Rogers and Bell, were testing Apple TVs in their labs.

Apple Insider, meanwhile, says the big news for Apple TV is likely to be a refresh of the connected device that Apple already has sold 4.2 million of--its $99 set-top box. Channel partners haven't been getting the device restocked for the past three weeks, the report said.
